brave actions — are they up to it? Find out in this spine-tingling

CM, Volume XV Number 7, November 21, 2008
A Halloween mystery which links a curious incident of dogs losing their barks and the legend of Cuchulain, an Irish hero. Can Mike and Annie stop the curse of the graveyard hounds, that seem to be held somehow in their school furnace room? There are plenty of threats of death and danger, but little genuine violence in this story. There is something a little amusing about a school caretaker who steals dogs’ howls and seals them in lunch pails and Tupperware containers so that the legendary hounds cannot grow stronger.
This is the first novel for young people by Ms. Hughes, who has previously been an elementary school principal. It could be used as a gateway to legends from around the world.
